How Does Powder Coating Work?
You're only 4 stages away from an unbeatable finish!...
Stage 1 - Pre-treatment
Your finish is only as good as the pre-treatment that's under neath it. This is the most important stage of powder coating and another reason we're different from the competition. At Decora, we don't just treat all metals the same. We have an individual 6 stage wash system that is only used to clean aluminum. This wash has chemistry designed to offer the most cleaning and etching possible as well as a proprietary conversion coating designed by the military to help bond the paint to the substrate. We also have a separate wash system with chemistry designed specifically for steel. This wash has the appropriate chemistry to ensure your steel products receive the best pre-treatmant possible. All of our chemistry is designed with the environment in mind and offers maximum cleaning and conversion coating performance.
Now that your parts are squeaky clean, they are ready for paint!
Step 2 - Paint
Now the fun part! At Decora, we work with our customers and suppliers to tailor only the best paint to meet their specific needs and budget concerns. Factors we consider are based on desired longevity of the paint (warranty/durability), appearance of the paint (gloss/color match) and performance characteristics (chemical resistance/UV resistance/anti-microbial/flexibility). Decora is an approved applicator of AAMA 2605 powders.
Now that your parts are painted they're ready for the oven!
Step 3 - Cure
At Decora, we adjust our cure cycles to be customer specific. We run preliminary tests on all of our customers' products before painting to develop a cure time that works with your product and the specific paint you have chosen. A proper cure is crucial for finish performance and ensures that color, gloss, and durability will last for years to come.

Step 4 - Customer Care
Taking proper care of your finish can have a major impact on the durability and appearance of your new paint. The right maintenance can help hold your paint's color and shine, as well as provide protection from the elements.
